Barley in Biblical Times~ The use of barley was common in religious ritual in the ancient empires of the
Hindu, Greek, Hebrew, Egyptian and Sumerian cultures. It furnished a strong argument in favor
of the great antiquity of its cultivation, and was known to Stone Age Europe.
Offerings of barley were
associated with the Gods and Goddesses of antiquity and played an important
role in trade, community, and spiritual practice.
Barley was associated with
Isis, Demeter, Mary Magdalene and Ishtar (known as the "Queen of the Harvest" and the "Goddess of Barley").
Worshippers of Osiris believed that their staple grain, barley, was sacred to the god. His believers performed a
eucharistic rite wherein they ate the barley bread – his body, and drank the barley ale – his blood,
in order to become like him, immortal. Barley and the Barley Bride is historically associated with Jesus.
Hero's Journey ~ The original Sumerian cuneiform tablets of Gilgamesh were damaged, and scholars were unable to decipher the
complete book. A Hebrew tablet was later located that contained a version of the same story. Comparison of the two
tablets provided a complete history known today as the "flood myth" depicting the evolution of
Gilgamesh, the earlier
version of Noah.
"The Gods finding
humans so "noisy" they could not sleep,
determine humanity must be destroyed."

Fields Of Gold
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we walk in the fields of gold
So she took her love
For to gaze awhile
Upon the fields of barley
In his arms she fell as her hair came down
Among the fields of gold
Will you stay with me, will you be my love
Among the fields of barley
We'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
As we lie in the fields of gold
See the west wind move like a lover so
Upon the fields of barley
Feel her body rise when you kiss her mouth
Among the fields of gold
I never made promises lightly
And there have been some that I've broken
But I swear in the days still left
We'll walk in the fields of gold
We'll walk in the fields of gold
Many years have passed since those summer days
Among the fields of barley
See the children run as the sun goes down
Among the fields of gold
You'll remember me when the west wind moves
Upon the fields of barley
You can tell the sun in his jealous sky
When we walked in the fields of gold
When we walked in the fields of gold
When we walked in the fields of gold
